Plaza del Obispo de Malaga, Malaga

Plaza del Obispo de Malaga, Malaga

Plaza del Obispo is located in front of the main façade of the Cathedral of the Incarnation of Malaga and the Episcopal Palace of Malaga.

The origin of this square possibly dates back to the Muslim era, but it acquired its appearance with the completion of the main facade of the cathedral and the episcopal palace in the 18th century. In the last decade of the 20th century , the square was renovated and some of its buildings renovated, replacing the old buildings by Diego Clavero and Gerónimo Cuervo. The works allowed the tasting of remains of the old late- Roman and Byzantine wall.

The square has in the center a fountain from 1785, whose water had been brought through the aqueduct of San Telmo is built with stone marble gray, at the same as the cover of the Palacio Episcopal, and consists of two cups and a pineapple at the top from which water flows. 5 With the reform of the square in 1998 , the planter that surrounded it was eliminated and replaced by a base as a step.

The Plaza del Obispo, the Episcopal Palace and the Cathedral of Malaga appear in the feature film El Puente de San Luis Rey ( 2004 ) as the setting for a city in colonial Peru from the 18th century.
