Ponta de Humaita (Humaita Point), Salvador

Humaitá Point-Salvador’s charming coastal landmard in the Monte Serrat neighborhood-takes its poetic-sounding name from the indigenous Tupi-Guarani, meaning simply "black stone." But beyond the rocks, it’s home to a striking architectural ensemble: the Church and Monastery of Monte Serrat, charming 19th-century houses, the historic Monte Serrat Yacht Club building, and, most famously, the Monte Serrat Lighthouse.

There's a reason why locals nickname this spot the "Valentine’s Lighthouse": countless romances have sparked right here. Perhaps it's the spectacular view or the golden glow at sunset-or perhaps the secret matchmaker is the lighthouse’s balustrade. Skeptical? Well, this unique railing does double duty-protecting visitors from the sea while also conveniently serving as a cozy bench. You sit, relax, strike up a conversation... and before you know it, sparks fly!

Originally built to warn sailors of hidden dangers and guide ships safely along the coast, the lighthouse offers panoramic views, clearly illustrating Salvador’s unique layout from the Lower City up to the historic Upper City. Of Salvador’s three lighthouses, this is the only one set directly within the sea, on the shores of Monte Serrat Beach. At high tide, parts of its base disappear underwater, making the scene even more captivating.

In 2019, Salvador’s municipal government spruced up Humaitá Point, enhancing facilities with a renovated sports court, accessible restrooms, inviting contemplation areas, an improved space for traditional capoeira circles, and wheelchair-friendly ramps-ensuring that everyone can enjoy this picturesque little corner.
