Queen's Gallery Bangkok, Bangkok
The Queen's Gallery officially opened its doors on Saturday, August 9, 2003, thanks to the initiative of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit. Its primary purpose was to serve as a space for showcasing the artworks of Thai artists, particularly those who were relatively unknown to society, as well as the works of esteemed senior artists.
Her Majesty the Queen generously contributed her own funds to support this endeavor. Mr. Chatri Sophonpanich, the chairman of Bangkok Bank and a group of supporters, presented these funds to Her Majesty during an award ceremony held on June 15, 2001, in recognition of her role as a patron of the arts. The money received from Her Majesty was used to establish The Queen's Gallery Foundation.
Under Mr. Chatri's direction, the former Bangkok Bank Musical Art Centre, located at Phanfa Bridge branch, was transformed into a modern art gallery. In honor of Her Majesty's association with the gallery, it was named "Her Majesty the Queen Sirikit Gallery," commonly known as "The Queen's Gallery" for short.
The gallery comprises four floors dedicated to art exhibitions, with the 5th floor serving as a space for educational activities aimed at promoting the appreciation of precious Thai artworks within society. Each floor hosts exhibitions on various themes, including the renowned BuaLuang paintings and temporary exhibitions.
In addition to the exhibition spaces, the gallery also features a shop where visitors can purchase souvenirs inspired by the artworks of various artists, such as T-shirts, programs, books, and gifts. There is also a gallery cafe offering Thai-style roasted coffee with an Italian twist, providing comfortable seating along Rachadamnoen Nok Avenue.
