Ringling Bridge, Sarasota
The Ringling Bridge is a world-renowned landmark in Sarasota, standing tall at a height of 65 feet over the glistening Sarasota Bay. Its significance can be attributed to the fact that it is named after John Ringling, a co-founder of the famous Ringling Brothers Circus.
The first bridge was constructed in 1925, and commissioned by John Ringling himself, in order to ease access to his personal island properties. Since then, the bridge has been replaced three times, with the current bridge having been built in 2003. This modern marvel replaced the drawbridge that was initially built in 1959.
The Ringling Bridge now serves as an important thoroughfare, connecting the mainland and downtown Sarasota to the scenic barrier islands of Lido Key and Longboat Key. Its impressive height, striking design, and breathtaking views make it a popular destination for runners, walkers, and cyclists, as well as a symbol of Sarasota's history and progress.
