Ringve Museum, Trondheim

Ringve Museum, Trondheim

Located just beyond the center of Trondheim, Ringve Museum stands as a prominent symbol of the nation's musical heritage, officially known as Ringve Music Museum. Boasting an impressive collection of over 2,000 musical instruments, the museum not only presents Norway's diverse musical past but also acts as a lively hub for musical activities and education.

Situated on the historic Ringve Farm, with roots tracing back to 1521 and its current architecture dating to the 1740s, the museum enjoys a picturesque setting amidst the tranquility of Ringve botanical garden, offering captivating vistas of the Trondheimsfjord from its position on the Lade peninsula.

In addition to its historical significance and scenic beauty, Ringve Museum serves as a dynamic center for musical exploration and interactive learning. Hosting various public events such as concerts, exhibitions, and guided tours accompanied by live music performances, the museum invites visitors to immerse themselves in musical history.

The Main Building provides a glimpse into music of the 1880s, allowing guests to interact with historical instruments played by knowledgeable guides, while the Soundtracs instrument gallery offers a comprehensive exploration of the museum's vast collection, highlighting the intricate interplay between people, instruments, and music.

The foundation of the museum's remarkable collection can be attributed to the passion and commitment of Christian Anker Bachke and his wife, Victoria Rostin Bachke, who began accumulating historical musical instruments following their marriage in the late 1919s. Initially based on Victoria Bachke's personal collection, the museum was opened to the public in 1952 and further developed under the directorship of Jon Voigt from 1963 to 1997, solidifying Ringve's reputation as a haven for musicians and music enthusiasts.

Today, Ringve Museum continues to weave a rich tapestry of musical history within its Manor House and Barn, attracting visitors interested in exploring the profound connections between music, history, and culture in the heart of Norway.
