Robert Gordon's College, Aberdeen

Robert Gordon's College, located in the heart of Aberdeen, is a prestigious independent co-educational day school offering education from nursery through to senior school for children aged 3 to 18 years. The school, known for its academic excellence and strong reputation across Scotland, was originally established in 1750 following a bequest from Aberdeen merchant Robert Gordon. Initially called Robert Gordon’s Hospital, the school was founded to provide education to boys, and it was built on the site of an old Dominican Friary. The opening of the school was delayed by its temporary use as Fort Cumberland during the Jacobite Rising of 1746.

Robert Gordon's College has evolved significantly since its foundation. In 1881, it was renamed and expanded to offer adult education, which later became the foundation for Robert Gordon University. In 1989, the school became fully coeducational, welcoming both boys and girls. Today, the college consists of a Nursery, Junior School, and Senior School, and follows the Scottish curriculum.

Known for its traditional values paired with modern teaching methods, the school encourages independence, innovation, and curiosity from a young age. Students are grouped into one of four houses upon entering the school, fostering a strong sense of community and competition.

The College also boasts impressive sports facilities at its Countesswells Sports Fields, a 39-acre site where students participate in a variety of sports, including rugby, hockey, and football. True to the values set by its founder, Robert Gordon’s College remains deeply connected to the Aberdeen community, with its long-standing bursary program ensuring that one in seven Senior School students receives financial support.
