Roxas Boulevard, Manila

Roxas Boulevard, Manila

Roxas Boulevard, situated in Metro Manila, is a renowned waterfront promenade cherished for its breathtaking sunsets and the enchanting stretch of coconut trees that line the shores of Manila Bay. This iconic boulevard stands as a symbol of Philippine tourism, bustling with activity and leisure opportunities.

Originally known as Cavite Boulevard upon its completion in the 1910s, the boulevard has undergone several name changes throughout history. It was renamed Dewey Boulevard in honor of Admiral George Dewey after his victory in the Battle of Manila Bay in 1898. During the Japanese occupation, it was called Heiwa Boulevard, before being christened Roxas Boulevard in the 1960s, paying homage to President Manuel Roxas.

Roxas Boulevard functions as a vital eight-lane arterial road, designated as Radial Road 1 (R-1) within Metro Manila's road network. The boulevard's trajectory spans from Luneta in Manila to Parañaque, concluding at the intersection of MIA Road and Seaside Drive beneath the elevated NAIA Expressway.

The boulevard is not only a thoroughfare but also a hub of various attractions and amenities. It features a yacht club, numerous hotels, restaurants offering diverse cuisines, commercial buildings, and parks, creating a vibrant atmosphere that caters to both locals and tourists alike.

Moreover, Roxas Boulevard plays a significant role in the nation's infrastructure, serving as the starting point for the Manila–Cavite Expressway (CAVITEX), also known as the Coastal Road. This further enhances its accessibility and connectivity to and from the capital city, solidifying its status as a pivotal thoroughfare in the Philippines.
