Rumah Sakit Cikini (Cikini Hospital), Jakarta
Rumah Sakit Cikini, commonly known as Cikini Hospital, is a historic medical institution situated in Central Jakarta. Initially constructed in 1852 by the celebrated Indonesian painter and aristocrat Raden Saleh, the building originally served as a mansion known as Raden Saleh Mansion. Raden Saleh designed the mansion, incorporating architectural elements reminiscent of the European Callenberg Castle, and the property featured a park-like setting that was once home to a collection of wild animals, including antelopes, until the early 1970s.
In 1898, the mansion underwent a significant transformation when Adriana Josina Kooman-de Graaf purchased the property and converted it into a hospital and nursing academy. The transition marked the beginning of the building's long-standing service to the community as a healthcare facility. The hospital is located in the Cikini area of Central Jakarta and spans an area of 5.6 hectares.
With a capacity of approximately 300 beds, Cikini Hospital is now recognized as a major center for dialysis treatment and kidney transplantation in the region. It is renowned for its spacious halls and graceful rooms, reflecting its origins as a grand mansion. The hospital's staff, including skilled nurses and physicians, are well-regarded for their medical expertise and care.
The site also holds historical significance due to its visit by Franz Ferdinand in 1893 during his world tour, where he witnessed preparations for the Batavia Exhibition of 1893 on the mansion's grounds.
