Saint-Pierre-le-Jeune Catholic Church (Saint-Pierre-le-Jeune Catholic Church ), Strasbourg
The Saint-Pierre-le-Jeune Catholic Church (Église Saint Pierre-le-Jeune Catholique) is a Catholic church that was constructed during the late 19th century in Strasbourg. This church is dedicated to Saint Peter and is situated in the Neustadt district. It's important not to confuse it with the medieval Saint-Pierre-le-Jeune Protestant Church found in the same city.
The location of the Saint-Pierre-le-Jeune Catholic Church is right next to the main courthouse called Palais de Justice. Interestingly, both of these structures were designed by the architect Skjold Neckelmann. He collaborated with his professional partner August Hartel for the church's design and worked alone on the courthouse's design after Hartel's passing.
Before the construction of this Saint-Pierre-le-Jeune church, both Catholics and Lutherans in Strasbourg used the medieval Saint-Pierre-le-Jeune church together. It wasn't until 1898 that the Catholics decided to give up their claim on the older church.
The architecture of the Saint-Pierre-le-Jeune Catholic Church showcases rose sandstone as its main material. The church is topped with a substantial and impressive dome that has an interior diameter of 18.5 meters and an interior height of 50 meters. Inside the church, you'll find a spacious interior adorned with altars, mosaics, and a particularly large circular chandelier. The current pipe organ was installed in the year 2003.
