The Santa Cruz Art League, established in 1919 by a collective of local artists, is a vibrant center for the arts located near downtown Santa Cruz. It serves as a multifaceted venue combining an art gallery, theater, classroom, and gift shop, all aimed at celebrating and promoting the arts within the community.

Originally founded to provide a space for artists to gather, share, and inspire each other, the Santa Cruz Art League has evolved into a supportive environment for artists of all levels, from amateurs to professionals. The league hosts an impressive range of activities, including 12 to 15 themed exhibitions annually, showcasing various forms of media that attract over 30,000 visitors each year.

In addition to exhibitions, the Art League offers a robust schedule of art classes available seven days a week, catering to all skill levels, from beginners to advanced artists. These classes are taught by local artists, ensuring that participants receive knowledgeable and passionate instruction. A key component of the league is the Broadway Play House, a black box theater managed by the Art League and featuring performances by young theater students from neighboring organizations.
