Scandinavian Congress Center, Aarhus
The Scandinavian Congress Center, located in the Midtbyen neighborhood of Aarhus, at Margrethe Square (Margrethepladsen), is a notable landmark and a significant structure in the region. Completed in 1995, it was designed by the architectural firm Friis & Moltke, reflecting a modern style. The building is easily recognized by its long glass-covered promenade that ingeniously adjusts to the 11-meter height difference in its terrain, making it a distinctive feature along Eckersberg Street (Eckersbergsgade).
Strategically placed between the Aarhus Concert Hall and Sonnesgade at Godsbanen, the convention center's design includes a central staircase that obliquely runs through the facility, incorporating walkways, elevators, and green spaces. Its striking glass roof is supported by an arched pipe construction, while the structure is built using materials such as yellow brick, black marble, granite, aluminum, and jatoba wood for the flooring.
Initially proposed by the Aarhus city council in the late 1980s to rejuvenate the area surrounding the Aarhus Concert Hall, the project stalled for decades. The construction of the ARoS Aarhus Art Museum and the transformation of Godsbanen into a cultural center later revived the initiative.
Today, the Scandinavian Congress Center is privately owned and hosts a variety of functions, including conventions, a hotel, and various businesses, serving as a central hub for commerce and culture in Aarhus.

It is also one of the oldest cities in the country with roots that date to the 8th century when Vikings built a small settlement at the mouse of AArhus River encircled by an earthen rampart and a moat. Back then, Aarhus was called "Aros" which was the old Danish word for "river mouth".
