Sea World Jakarta, Jakarta

SeaWorld Jakarta is a prominent marine aquarium located in Jakarta. It features several major exhibits, including a main tank, a shark tank, and a turtle exhibit. The main tank is particularly notable as one of the largest aquariums in Southeast Asia. Currently, Sea World Ancol is undergoing an expansion with the ambitious goal of becoming the world's largest sea park.

SeaWorld Ancol has a rich history housing diverse marine species. Notably, it housed Doel and Diana, a pair of dugongs, from 2000 until their passing in 2016. In 2018, the aquarium rescued and rehabilitated a baby dugong caught by fishermen, successfully releasing it back into the wild. The former dugong tank now hosts sea turtles. Parni, a giant stingray rescued from local fishermen, lived in the aquarium for nine years until its passing in 2008. Parni's preserved body is displayed in the aquarium's museum.

The aquarium has faced environmental controversy, particularly over a plan to acquire a whale shark from Berau Regency, East Kalimantan, which raised concerns about the animal's well-being in captivity. An online petition led SeaWorld to clarify that the whale shark was not part of their official agreement with the Berau Regency government.

In 2013, SeaWorld Jakarta made headlines by acquiring 10 scalloped hammerhead sharks from Farglory Ocean Park in Taiwan, becoming the first and only public aquarium in Indonesia to exhibit this species. Although the sharks were initially a significant attraction, by 2022, none were on display.
