Sheikh Isa Bin Sulman Causeway, Manama

Sheikh Isa Bin Sulman Causeway, Manama

Sheikh Isa Bin Salman Causeway is a significant infrastructure project in Bahrain, connecting Busaiteen to Manama's Diplomatic Area. It was built to ease the traffic congestion caused by the previous bridge that linked Muharraq Island to Bahrain Island. This causeway is easily recognizable by its striking triangular white columns. It is named after the former Emir of Bahrain, Sheikh Isa bin Salman Al Khalifah, who ruled the country from 1961 until his death. Sheikh Isa played a pivotal role in gaining Bahrain's independence from the United Kingdom in 1971.

The Al-Fateh Mosque, located in the capital city of Manama, is one of the largest mosques in the world. Built next to the King Faisal Highway in Juffair, the mosque can accommodate over 7,000 worshippers at a time. The mosque was constructed in 1987 by the late Sheikh Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa and is named after Ahmed Al Fateh, who conquered Bahrain.

The Al-Fateh Mosque's dome is a notable feature of the structure, as it is made of pure fiberglass and weighs over 60,000 kg. It is currently the largest fiberglass dome in the world. The floors of the mosque are made of Italian marble, while the chandelier is from Austria. Throughout the mosque, visitors can see calligraphy writings in Kufic, an ancient style of Arabic calligraphy. The mosque now also includes the new National Library, which opened in 2006.
