Spring and Autumn Pavilions, Kaohsiung

Spring and Autumn Pavilions, Kaohsiung

Rocking the eternal Chinese sense of yin and yang, the Autumn and Spring Pagodas are built in bold, cartoon style, just like the Dragon & Tiger Temples. These actually predate their neighbour and were built in 1953 by the Chi Ming Palace. At the Autumn and Spring Pagodas, there’s a long bridge over the Lotus Lake which leads to an island temple called Wuliting. This is a peaceful spot where I spent 20 minutes soaking up the views and chatting to an elderly Taiwanese man named Bobby who was keen to welcome me to his country.

The Spring and Autumn Pavilions are a Taoist temple complex located on Lotus Lake in Zuoying District, Kaohsiung, Taiwan. Like the Dragon and Tiger Pagodas, the temple is special and unique. It was built in 1953 by Chi Ming palace, were two Chinese palace-style pavilions. The complex can be seen from the top of the Dragon and Tiger Pagodas.

At the southwest of Lotus Pond, the two Chinese palace style pavilions are called Spring and Autumn, to commemorate GuanGon (a saint of military). The two pavilions are connected by a curve bridge; the curve bridge is a great spot to have the lotus view in summer time. You can access the pavilion by the dragon-like entrance which with beautiful colored wall paintings, and there are statues of god for visitors to worship.

At Lotus Pond, about 180m to the north of the Dragon & Tiger Pagodas are the fun and gaudy Spring & Autumn Pavilions. The two octagonal towers in green and yellow are dedicated to Guandi, the God of War, and feature Guanyin riding a dragon that you can walk through like you do the dragon and tiger at the pagodas. ***PH***
