Saint Joseph’s Cathedral in Abu Dhabi is frequented by tourists from around the world especially because it is the only Catholic Church in this Emirate. It is located near the intersection of the Seventeenth Street and Airport Road.
Saint Joseph’s Church is packed to the full capacity during masses as the parish is a home to at least 100,000 expatriate Catholics. Since the establishment of the first version of this church in 1962, the steadily growing economy of the region has resulted in a constant surge of faithful.
The first church of Saint Joseph occupied premises on the Corniche. The land for construction was donated by the ruler of Abu Dhabi, H.H. Sheikh Shakbut. It was later moved to its current location in 1981.

To meet the rising attendance, the church had to add a number of services. Within the church compound you will also find a school and the Bishop’s House.
