St. Peter and St. Paul Catholic Church, Muscat

St. Peter and St. Paul Catholic Church, Muscat

Saint Peter and Saint Paul Catholic Church, situated in Ruwi, Muscat, serves as a prominent center of Catholicism in the area. It's one of the two Catholic churches in Muscat, the other being the Holy Spirit Church in Ghana. Operating within the Roman or Latin rite, it falls under the jurisdiction of the Apostolic Vicariate of Southern Arabia, reflecting its significance within the Catholic hierarchy in this region.

The establishment of Saints Peter and Paul Church underscore Oman's tradition of religious tolerance. Its original building was consecrated on April 4, 1977, by Cardinal Simon Lourduswamy, a milestone in the Catholic community's presence in Oman. This accomplishment was facilitated by the Sultan of Oman's generous donation of land, emphasizing not only the provision of a Catholic place of worship but also the peaceful coexistence of diverse faiths in the country.

The church primarily serves the expatriate worker community, which has steadily grown since the twentieth century. These individuals, hailing from various corners of the globe, find comfort and community within the church's premises. In response to the increasing congregation, the church underwent significant expansion in 1995, financed by the contributions of its devoted members. This expansion enabled the church to uphold its mission of meeting the spiritual needs of its community, offering a larger space for worship, fellowship, and sacramental observances.
