Stade Pierre-Mauroy, Lille

Stade Pierre-Mauroy, Lille

The Stade Pierre-Mauroy is a versatile stadium located in Villeneuve-d'Ascq, part of the Lille Metropolitan area, and it opened its doors in August 2012. It boasts a seating capacity of 50,186 and serves as the home ground for the football club LOSC Lille. Originally called Grand Stade Lille Métropole, the stadium was renamed on June 21, 2013, in honor of Pierre Mauroy, the city's former mayor and ex-Prime Minister of France, who had recently passed away.

The stadium features two primary levels. The entire structure stands 31 meters tall and offers 50,186 seats, which include 4,965 seats for business purposes, 1,842 in luxury boxes, 448 seats designated for official use, and 326 seats for the media.

One unique aspect of the stadium is that half of the field is mounted on a hydraulic system that can lift and shift over the remaining half within three hours. This setup allows the creation of a lower level called Boîte à Spectacles, used for hosting basketball and tennis games or concerts, with adjustable seating capacities ranging from 6,900 to 30,000. Notably, it was the venue for the 2014 Davis Cup finals between France and Switzerland, setting a record for the highest attendance at a regulated tennis match. The stadium also hosted the Davis Cup final again in 2017.

Additionally, Stade Pierre-Mauroy is equipped with a retractable roof that can be opened or closed in just 15 minutes. The stadium is recognized for its eco-friendly design, featuring solar panels and two wind turbines that contribute to its power supply. It's easily accessible via metro and roads and includes 7,000 parking spaces.
