Street Market Binnenrotte, Rotterdam

Binnenrotte Market is a vast street market in Rotterdam, known for its diverse range of goods including vintage items, fresh produce, and more. With around 100 food stalls in the impressive Markthal structure, the market also extends between Meent Street and Blaak train station. Rotterdam's second-largest market started on August 26, 1958, continuing a long tradition of city markets. It has 465 stalls, attracting 70,000 visitors. The market's history includes locations on Botersloot, Goudsesingel with 1200 stalls, and Noordplein post-war bombing.

In the city's rebuilding, the market transformed into an organized and inviting hub. Stalls were neatly grouped with wide lanes in-between for textiles, food, and goods. The "jumble sale" also moved to Noordplein, where vendors displayed used items under the railway viaduct, creating an appealing spot for treasure hunters. The market's used book section relocated to Nieuwemarkt.

The success of Binnenrotte Market revitalized the city center's eastern side. In the 1970s, plans for a large interchange near Oudehaven were abandoned. The 1980s brought renewal with a metro station, Central Library, Cube Dwellings, and vibrant development around Oudehaven. Despite disruptions from a railway tunnel, it enriched the urban landscape. The iconic Market Hall, finished in 2014, added another attraction to the lively Binnenrotte area.
