Strijp-S, Eindhoven

Strijp-S is a dynamic neighborhood in the Strijp district of Eindhoven, known for its transformation from a former industrial park into a hub for creativity, technology, and urban living. Originally belonging to electronics giant Philips, Strijp-S has evolved since 2000 into a vibrant space filled with creative companies, residential buildings, and cultural venues. It is conveniently served by the Eindhoven Strijp-S railway station.

The name Strijp-S follows Philips’ industrial park naming pattern, with Strijp-S being the first, later followed by Strijp-T and Strijp-R. Today, the area maintains its industrial heritage while embracing modern artistic and technological innovations.

One of the cultural highlights of Strijp-S is MU Hybrid Art House, located at Torenallee 40-06. This contemporary art space explores the boundaries of art and technology, engaging with young creators and an international audience to redefine what art can be. Strijp-S is also home to De Ontdekfabriek, a hands-on discovery space where children can experiment with science and technology.

Strijp-S continues to honor its Philips legacy through innovative lighting projects. The area serves as a testing ground for LED lighting experiments, including notable light art installations such as Fakkel by Har Hollands and Crystal by artist Daan Roosegaarde, the latter of which can be found in the underground passage leading to NatLab.

Strijp-S is a cultural hub in Eindhoven, hosting major events like the GLOW Light Festival and Dutch Design Week each October. The Klokgebouw, a former Philips factory, stages concerts, and exhibitions, while Ketelhuisplein hosts large festivals. Every third Sunday, the FeelGood Markt brings local crafts, food, and live music.

With its mix of historical significance and forward-thinking creativity, Strijp-S has become a landmark of innovation in Eindhoven, offering a unique blend of industry, art, and community-driven events.
