Sunehri Masjid is located near the southwest corner of Red Fort and opposite Netaji Subhash Park in Delhi. There is another Sunehri mosque in Chandni Chowk. Sunehri Masjid near Red Fort is popularly known as Golden mosque. Nawab Qudsiya Begum, the wife of Emperor Ahmad Shah built this the mosque in 1751. It is one of the fortunate monuments that survived the first war of Indian Independence in 1857.

Sunehri Masjid has three huge domes, which were originally coated with copper. The mosque comprises of a prayer hall and two minarets. You can obtain information about the builder and the date of construction of the mosque from the detailed inscriptions on the central arch. The dome of the minaret also had copper plates. Bahadur Shah II repaired and replaced them with sandstone facing in 1852.

Sunehri Masjid is historically significant. It was on the terrace of this Masjid that Nadir Shah, the Persian ruler happily watched his armies killing innocent citizens in the year 1739. The Masjid is open on all days. Do not miss a visit to this interesting historical landmark on your trip to Delhi.
