Swedish Army Museum, Stockholm

The Swedish Army Museum (Armémuseum) is a military history museum located in the Östermalm district of Stockholm. Established at its current location, Artillerigården, in 1879, the museum has deep historical roots, as the site has been used for military purposes since the 17th century. Originally known as the Artillery Museum, it was renamed the Army Museum in the early 1930s to better reflect its broadened focus on Sweden's military history.

The museum's current buildings, dating from the late 18th century, have undergone several refurbishments, with a major renovation completed in 1943, and another significant update leading to its reopening in 2002. The museum was honored as the best museum in Stockholm in 2005.

The Army Museum's exhibits provide a comprehensive overview of Sweden's military past, highlighting the country's history from its martial successes in the 17th and 18th centuries to its modern policy of neutrality. The displays vividly depict the experiences of soldiers, their families, and the civilian population during both wartime and peacetime. These include life-size figures of soldiers from various eras, detailed scenes of major battles, and a wide array of weapons, military uniforms, and other war-related artifacts.

One of the museum's notable features is a room dedicated to the trophies and flags captured by armies defeated by Sweden in the 17th and 18th centuries. Additionally, the museum hosts a mini-exhibition on Raoul Wallenberg, the heroic Swedish diplomat who saved thousands of Jews from the Nazis during World War II.
