Tampa Museum of Art, Tampa
The Tampa Museum of Art, located in downtown Tampa is a popular destination for art enthusiasts. The museum showcases modern and contemporary art, along with Greek, Roman, and Etruscan antiquities. Founded in 1979, the museum opened its award-winning new building in 2010. The new building, located just north of its original site along the Riverwalk on the banks of Hillsborough River, was designed by architect Stanley Saitowitz. It is made of aluminum, glass, and fiber optic color-changing lights in the exterior walls to make the building a work of art.
The museum currently has two floors, with the first-floor housing the Help and Visitation Desk, a joint cafe, and a gift shop for the museum, and the second floor hosting the circulating galleries. The museum's permanent collection includes ancient pottery and tools from civilizations before and during Ancient Greece sponsored by the University of South Florida Special Collections, and other exhibits such as "An Irresistible Urge to Create: The Monroe Family Collection of Outside Art" and works of Paul Jenkins, an Abstract Expressionist whose works are currently on display.
The Tampa Museum of Art is currently partnered with the University of South Florida and other organizations to offer educational opportunities and guided tours, making it a must-visit destination for anyone interested in art and culture.
