Teatro Victoria Eugenia (Victoria Eugenia Theatre), San Sebastian

Victoria Eugenia Theatre is a historic theatre located in the heart of San Sebastian. It is an iconic building that has played a crucial role in the city's cultural scene since its opening in 1912. The theatre underwent extensive renovations between 2001 and 2007, after which it was reopened to the public.

The theatre features a range of spaces, including the Main Hall with a capacity of 910 seats, the Club Room, Entrance and Foyer, China Room, Dance Room, Press Room, Multipurpose Rooms, and outdoor premises. The Main Hall is especially impressive, with spectacular vaults decorated with frescoes by the artist Ignacio Ugarte.

The exterior of the theatre is made of sandstone, a common feature of many buildings in San Sebastian. The front of the building is adorned with sculptures of the clothes of Basque musicians, including Franzisko Xabier Munibe, the Count of Peñaflorida, Juan Crisostomo Arriaga, Hilarion Eslava, Julian Gaiarre, Joaquin Gaztanbide, and Jose Juan Santesteban Iraola.

Victoria Eugenia Theatre has been the headquarters of the Donostia Film Festival since its inception until it moved to the Kursaal in 1999. The Donostia music fortnight also has one of its main headquarters here. Today, the theatre continues to host a wide range of cultural events and is an important cultural landmark in San Sebastian.
