Originating in 1949, LantarenVenster was conceived as a multifaceted space at the heart of Rotterdam, accommodating theater, dance, music, and film. For decades, it remained a pivotal cultural nexus within the city, gaining renown as the very birthplace of the International Film Festival Rotterdam in 1972. In a significant move during 2010, LantarenVenster transitioned to a state-of-the-art facility located within Rotterdam's burgeoning high-rise district. Boasting an impressive array of amenities, including five cinemas, a concert hall, and an inviting café-restaurant, LantarenVenster now stands as one of the Netherlands' most contemporary venues for both artistic cinema and live music performances.
