Thomson Memorial Park, Toronto

Thomson Memorial Park, situated in the Scarborough district of Toronto, is a charming midsize park located on Brimley Road. The park holds great historical significance as it houses the Scarborough Historical Museum and showcases well-preserved houses from the 1790s that once belonged to the founding family of Scarborough, the Thomsons.

Conveniently positioned near Lawrence Avenue East and Brimley Road, Thomson Memorial Park offers various amenities for visitors to enjoy. The park boasts an outdoor baseball diamond and soccer field in the north end, while tennis courts are available in the southern section. Additionally, there are picnic areas, playgrounds, wading pools, and dog parks, catering to the diverse recreational needs of the community.

Running parallel to the park is the West Highland Creek, a tributary of the Highland Creek. The park features bicycle paths that serve as a convenient means of transportation. The wooded ravines within the park offer tranquil paths that provide a glimpse of nature's beauty within the urban setting.

In 1956, the University of Toronto led an excavation at Brimley Road, revealing a Huron-Wendat village from the late 1200s. It is believed to be connected to the Taber Hill ossuary nearby. Scarborough Township marked this site with a plaque. Reeve Gus Harris wanted to create a museum or a recreated "Indian village" as a tourist attraction in Scarborough. In 2000, another Huron-Wendat village site was found near L'Amoreaux Park (North), possibly related to this site.
