Three Pools Mirroring the Moon, Hangzhou
The Three Pools Mirroring the Moon comprises the largest of three enchanting islets, characterized by three pagodas surrounded by pools. Particularly captivating during Mid-autumn Festival evenings, the islet provides an optimal vantage point for admiring the full moon over the tranquil waters of the mid lake.
Each of the three gourd-shaped stone pagodas rises approximately two meters above the water's surface, forming an equilateral triangle with sides spanning sixty-two meters. Notably, these pagodas, hollow in structure, feature five equally spaced round holes along their bodies.
During the Mid-autumn Festival, a beloved tradition ensues wherein locals venture to the islet by boat, adorning each pagoda with a lit candle and sealing the holes with delicate white paper. This ritualistic gesture creates a mesmerizing spectacle as the candlelight dances upon the water's surface, mimicking the luminous glow of the moon. Alongside the celestial orb above, fifteen candles flicker like miniature moons, casting a magical aura upon the surroundings. The interplay of gentle candlelight and the shimmering lake evokes a sense of tranquility and enchantment.
