Tragos Fountain, Malmo

Tragos Fountain, Malmo

The Tragos Fountain, often referred to as the "Magic Fountain," is one of Malmö’s cultural landmarks, located prominently in front of the Malmö Opera and Music Theatre. Created by the acclaimed Swedish sculptor Nils Sjögren between 1945 and 1953, the fountain is a stunning bronze masterpiece that portrays 22 theater characters, capturing the essence of drama and performance. Sjögren’s work is a tribute to the world of theater, with figures symbolizing the art of acting and the birth of tragedy.

The fountain is as striking during the day as it is at night. While sunlight enhances the detailed artistry of the bronze figures, in the evening, the fountain transforms the space with glowing lights, creating a romantic and almost mystical ambiance. This combination of art, water, and light has earned it the nickname “Magic Fountain,” and it remains a beloved symbol of Malmö’s rich cultural scene.
