Turku University Botanical Garden, Turku

Turku University Botanical Garden is located in the protected area of the island of Ruissalo, in the eponymous area of the city of Turku. The Botanical Garden of the University of Turku was founded in 1924 and was originally located in the Iso-Heikkil area, and in 1956 moved to a new location - in the Ruissalo area in the eponymous district of the city of Turku.

The main task of the garden is to assist in the research and teaching activities of the Faculty of Biology of the University of Turku . At the same time, the garden is open to visitors.

The area of the botanical garden is 24 hectares, and the plant collection includes 5,000 plant species of various climatic zones.

About 43 thousand visitors a year visit the botanical garden, of which 18 thousand are visitors to the greenhouses built in 1998 by architect Jarmo Saarinen.

The scientific management of the garden is carried out by Pekka Niemelä , Professor of the Department of Biology at the University of Turku .
