US Army Museum of Hawaii, Honolulu (must see)
The U.S. Army Museum of Hawaii is situated within Battery Randolph, a former coastal artillery fortification, situated at Fort DeRussy Military Reservation. This battery was converted into a museum back in 1976. The museum's collection comprises various artifacts, including World War II armor pieces, an AH-1 Cobra helicopter, and small arms on display indoors, as well as the historic battery itself. Unfortunately, the battery's primary cannons were removed before the museum's establishment.
The museum's exhibitions encompass the military history of pre-Imperial Hawaii and the post-annexation history of U.S. Army operations in the Pacific hemisphere, covering events such as World War II, Vietnam, and Korea. Additionally, there's a "Gallery of Heroes" that pays tribute to individuals who have received the Medal of Honor and the Distinguished Service Cross.
The museum shares its premises with the Regional Visitor Center of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Pacific Division, which showcases information about significant Army Corps projects in Hawaii and the wider Pacific region. It is overseen by the U.S. Army Center for Military History and the U.S. Army Garrison in Hawaii.
The Hawaii Army Museum Society was officially established in 1976 by a group of military veterans and patriotic citizens. Its primary mission is to provide support to the U.S. Army Museum of Hawaii.
Visiting the museum is free of charge, and it is open most Tuesdays, except for those following a Monday holiday, through Saturday. You can find it located on Kalia Road, near the Hale Koa Hotel, with parking available across the street.
