Votsalakia Beach, Piraeus
One of the top things to do in Piraeus is to head to the beach. The most popular is Votsalakia Beach and it sits between Zea and Mikrolimano harbors. It is the largest beach in Piraeus, with clean and clear blue water. The shore, however, is a bit rocky.
Votsalakia, meaning “small pebbles”, is a beach filled with small and large-sized rocks and coarse sand on the left side! Mostly used by nearby inhabitants, the shore of Votsalakia has a deep seabed, whereas its bathers will also spot the uninhabited, lushly-vegetated Koumoundourou islet (also known as Stalis)! On top of that, specially-made rails are providing easy water access to wheelchair users! This shore is partly organized, featuring a line of sunbeds and umbrellas provided by a beachside bar, even though most of its length remains pristine. Votsalakia Beach is surprisingly easy to reach since it is located between the cosmopolitan Marina Zeas and Mikrolimano in Piraeus! In addition, there are plenty of sports amenities nearby, such as fantastic tennis courts, beach volleyball courts, a soccer field, workout spots, and the city’s municipal open-air swimming pool!
Votsalakia and Votsalakia Beach is a teally nice destination. The beach on the far eastern side, is pretty empty and one can get an almost own beach. Moving westwards, there are more sun chsirs and below sunset restaurant, the sun beds are free. The only problem was that the sea was a bit cold for the Mediterranean, coldest I have experienced so far but could be the wind blowing out to the sea.
There are a number of restaurants, bars etc and they are not too crowded during high season. A tip is Togo for the ones looking a bit plain as the food and process are best here. If you like the authentic, go to Anna’s, if you like geniune food, hard smoking and a bit aggressive greek service and a greek matriark! There is s really good supermarket along the mail road with really good selection and pretty goodprices, so Hope the process do not go up due to increased tourist volumes.
