War Memorial, Almaty
The War Memorial, also known as the Memorial of Glory, stands as a tribute in Almaty, situated within the Park named after the 28 Panfilov Guardsmen. It was established to commemorate the 30th anniversary of victory in World War II. As an integral part of the complex, an eternal flame was ignited.
Designed in 1974 by architects T.K. Basenov, R.A. Seydalin, and V.N. Kim, the memorial was envisioned to be a triptych reflecting the establishment of Soviet power in Kazakhstan, the Soviet people's victory in the Great Patriotic War, and included a pedestal for the eternal flame.
The complex itself is divided into three distinct sections: "The Oath," featuring a young Red Army soldier with the horses of fallen comrades on the left; "The Feat," depicting the heroic defense of Moscow by the Panfilov heroes, complemented by a bas-relief of the 15 Soviet republics in the center; and "Trumpeting Glory," symbolizing the anthem of a triumphant life, positioned on the right. Additionally, capsules containing soil from hero cities are placed in front of the memorial, further encapsulating the profound reverence and remembrance this site commands.
The Memorial of Glory remains a significant landmark in Almaty, honoring the indelible legacy of those who fought and lived through one of history's most challenging epochs.

Almaty Introduction Walking Tour
Nursultan Nazarbayev, the former (and the first) President of Kazakhstan, once remarked: "Almaty is the pearl of Kazakhstan, the most beautiful city in Central Asia." Indeed, the country's largest metropolis, Almaty is like a butterfly that has emerged from its cocoon, spreading its wings and soaring towards the sky at the foothills of the Tien Shan Mountains.
