Westwood Presbyterian Church, Los Angeles

Situated in Westwood Village, adjacent to the UCLA campus, Westwood Presbyterian Church originally established itself as a university-affiliated congregation. Currently boasting approximately 600 members along with an additional 200 regular participants, the congregation prides itself on its diversity and warm, inclusive atmosphere. Over time, WPC has evolved into a prominent urban church, drawing individuals from across the wider Los Angeles area. Young families are increasingly selecting Westwood Presbyterian Church as their place of worship, encompassing a broad range of ages, ethnic backgrounds, as well as varying theological, political, and social viewpoints.

The formal organization of Westwood Presbyterian Church took place on November 23, 1947, under the jurisdiction of the presbytery. Comprising 116 charter members, the congregation appointed Reverend Haven Davis, a former Army Air Force chaplain, as their inaugural minister. Initially, the congregation convened at the Community Clubhouse, situated at the northeast intersection of Wilshire Boulevard and Veteran Avenue.

In 1949, the Presbytery secured a lot on a hilltop along Wilshire Boulevard, east of Glendon Avenue, to serve as the permanent church site. Eager to establish their own place of worship, the congregation acquired a real estate office building located on Wilshire and Glendon, relocating it to the hilltop in the spring of 1950. This repurposed structure, now known as Hoffman Hall, was adapted into a temporary chapel, hosting its first worship service in July 1950. Subsequently, the construction of the church's main sanctuary was completed in June 1953, and later in the same decade, a Christian education building was added to the premises.
