Winchester Mystery House, San Jose

Winchester Mystery House, San Jose (must see)

The Winchester Mystery House is one of the most unusual sights in San Jose. Originally owned by Sarah Winchester, heiress of the Winchester Repeating Arms fortune, had this unusual house built between 1886 and 1922. The mansion's unusual design was said to be directed by a psychic and includes 160 rooms, 10,000 windows, and 2,000 doors. Some of the things that stand out are stairways or doors that lead to nowhere, skylights that look down onto lower floors, and chimneys without fireplaces.

An Antique Products Museum highlights vintage items that Winchester made after the demand for firearms declined with World War I's conclusion. Sporting goods like roller skates and household goods were popular during this time. Costumes from the Winchester Film are also on display.

The property also includes Victorian gardens that have mostly preserved their original designs. There are hundreds of plant and shrub species, as well as thousands of box shrubs. You will also be able to enjoy statues of mythological characters, a Native American hunter, and wildlife.
