Woodlawn Cemetery Confederate Memorial, West Palm Beach
The Woodlawn Cemetery was founded in 1905 by the renowned Floridian philanthropist Henry Flagler. Although initially a pineapple grove, thanks to Flagler's restless efforts the spot quickly became the "most beautiful cemetery in the whole of Florida." Inspired in design and name by New York’s Woodlawn Cemetery, this area holds one of the unsolved mysteries of West Palm Beach. The author of the inscription on the entrance gate of the cemetery remains unknown to this day. The passage reads: “That which is so universal as death must be a blessing.”
