Yanahuara District, Arequipa

Yanahuara District boasts a distinct charm with its structures crafted from sillar, a luminous volcanic stone. Roughly a quarter of its expanse is occupied by Umacollo, a residential area favored by the middle class. A prominent feature is the Avenida Ejército, housing numerous banks and contemporary offices. Surrounding this area are meticulously preserved churches from the Spanish colonial era, public parks, and the famed Yanahuara viewpoint, a popular site where tourists gather to behold the city and its backdrop of volcanoes.

The Yanahuara viewpoint stands as an emblem of Arequipa, frequently captured by tourists visiting the White City. Situated in the eponymous neighborhood, it shares space with a colonial-era church. From this vantage, visitors are treated to a panoramic vista of the city and the imposing Chachani, Pichu Picchu, and Misti volcanoes. Despite being a mere 15-minute stroll north of the city center, the experience is undeniably worth the journey.
