Keep Austin Weird. With a slogan like that, I knew that I wanted to visit Austin on my honeymoon road trip. Toby and I don’t exactly live a conventional life and I have always been attracted to the weird and wonderful so Austin was a perfect fit for us.

Along with its quirky reputation, there are a number of things that make Austin such a desirable place to visit. It is a very green city with abundant nature right in the city, there is an incredible food scene – especially when it comes to Mexican food and Texas barbecue, and the city is a hub for art and music.

It’s a fun city to experience no matter what you are into, but I enjoyed focusing on the more unique things to do around the city when we visited. I loved my short but sweet time there and was nearly ready to call the movers and just live there. Austin will do that to you.

If you are visiting Austin between spring and early fall, don’t miss seeing the largest population of urban bats in North America. Hundreds of Mexican free-tailed bats live under the Congress Avenue Bridge and from around sunset you will start seeing the mass exodus of the bats as they go out to feed (don’t worry, just on bugs – not human blood). ......
