Dickensian Christmas, Victorian Festivities in Rochester, Rochester, England
The Victorian festivities of the Dickensian Christmas took place in the beautiful Rochester Castle Gardens. The whole town was buzzing with infamous characters from the legendary Dickens’s stories. It was like travelling back in time! One minute we were in the crowd of ordinary people, the next minute we were rubbing shoulders with men in tall hats and women in fancy Victorian dresses!
Rochester was for many years the favourite of Charles Dickens who lived nearby at Gads Hill Place, Higham, and who based many of his novels in the area. No wonder the Dickensian Christmas sprung to life exactly here. The setting for the event couldn’t be any more beautiful and historic, framed by the enchanting cathedral and stunning high street houses!
There was mulled wine, hot chocolate with marshmallows or even Bayleys, roasted chestnuts and fairy lights. As we walked the streets of Rochester it started snowing… Even though the snow was fake it did add so much charm to our fairy tale like day. The place smelled of Christmas and I felt like I was on the set of one of my favourite Christmas movies of all times ‘The Christmas Carol.’ ......
