Knez Mihailova Shopping Walk (Self Guided), Belgrade
Knez Mihailova in the center of Belgrade is the city's main street and a delightful place for a shopping expedition. First there are the shops, where you can find just about anything from clothes, toys and shoes to watches, books and items for the home. Then there is the architectural beauty. Knez Mihailova is a handsome looking street with many 19th-century buildings, mansions in classic and modern styles that were built for the wealthy elite and the city's influential families.
Among the well-known shopping brands on the street are Swarovski, Reebok, S&L Watches, Springfield, Adidas and Nike. In addition to browsing the stores, go to the top end of the thoroughfare for the market stalls that sell handmade gifts and souvenirs. At Knez Mihailova there is an extensive range of products to suit all budgets, ages and tastes. There are expensive designer goods, cheap Serbian wares and all things in between.
Even if you don't want to shop, this part of the city center is well worth a visit for its people watching, architecture and relaxed charm. When you want a break from your browsing or walking, enjoy a drink and a meal in one of the street's outdoor cafés or restaurants. In the summer months, refresh yourself by washing your face and hands in the fountain, located about halfway down the street.
