Monte Urpinu is a large, public park located on a hilltop in the city of Cagliari. It features tree-lined avenues and a children's playground, as well as panoramic views of the surrounding mountains. The park is popular for wildlife viewing and hiking, and is one of the best things to do in Cagliari for people who enjoy physical outdoor activities.

A green and relaxing oasis in the heart of the city is Monte Urpinu urban park, one of the best places to visit in Cagliari. A thick pine grove, Monte Urpinu park is the best place to take a break from the hustle and bustle of city life, enjoy nature and the many animals that live there, from colonies of cats, peacocks, gooses, chickens, ducks, rabbits, blackbirds, robin redbreast, goldfinch, kestrel and other species of birds. With a bar and a kiosk, here you can even stop for a quick lunch. There is an area dedicated to children (paid entrance), one of 15,000 square meters for dogs and a lake.

The Monte Urpinu park is a city park in Cagliari , located in the neighborhood of the same name. It is the largest green area in the city, as well as the oldest. The most widespread botanical species, not all spontaneous but adapted to the hot and semi-arid Mediterranean climate and the rocky calcareous soil , are the Aleppo pine, the wild olive , the carob , the holm oak , the mastic , the tree euphorbia , the alimo , the buckthorn , the phillyrea , the hackberry , the Canarian pine. Among the animals that live in the park there are swans , moorhens , mallards , geese , tree frogs , turtles and peacocks. The park is also inhabited by a colony of cats recently equipped with kennels. They can accommodate up to four specimens and protect the animals in case of rainfall.

The Monte Urpinu Park is one of the most important and best-known green areas of the city which is located on the hill of the same name. The Monte Urpinu Park is located on the hill of the same name and extends for over thirty-two hectares as a whole (about twenty-two hectares, however, occupied by the actual park), delimited by the panoramic Viale Europa and by Via Garavetti, Gemelli and Vidal, where there are numerous entrances. Originally occupied by natural forestry, Monte Urpinu (formerly Monte Volpino due to the large presence of foxes, later translated into the Sardinian language) saw its first intervention in the mid-1800s, at the behest of Baron Sanjust di Teulada, then owner of the area, with the planting of numerous specimens of Aleppo pine. In 1939, the Municipality of Cagliari purchased the area for the considerable sum of one million lire, using it as an urban park. The park is extremely versatile in its offer for use by citizens, starting from sports practice, moving on to recreational and socialization, for individuals or groups of friends and families, thanks to the presence of well-equipped sports areas , play areas, benches and fountains. There are several artificial bodies of water populated by turtles, ducks and swans, while in the surrounding areas it is possible to encounter specimens of geese and chickens, as well as the now traditional peacocks, the quintessential symbol of the park in the city's imagination. There is a large cat colony, served with wooden houses for the cats to rest. There is a large fenced area dedicated to dogs, measuring approximately two hectares. The green setting is extremely rich in quantity and quality; Aleppo pines, wild olives, holm oaks, lentisks, carobs, buckthorns, alimi, phillyreas, hackberries, Canarian pines, to name the most important species. Obligatory mention goes to Viale Europa which surrounds the south-east side of the park and which represents one of the most well-known and important panoramic points of the city, from which it is possible to admire the sunrise over the Gulf of Angels and the Sella del Diavolo or the sunset towards the Capoterra mountains, without neglecting the spectacular view of the entire city, up to the Castello district and the Castle of San Michele. The terrace of Viale Europa becomes a privileged location for observing pink flamingos during the nesting period in the tanks of the Molentargius Park. ***PH***
